The Development of Ethics in Contemporary Arab Philosophical Thought: the Contributions of M. ‘A. Lahbābī and M. ‘A. al-Ŷābrī
Abstract
This article analyzes the development and renewal of Ethics within contemporary Arab philosophical thought, which is especially evident in many rationalist thinkers and trends from the last three decades of the 20th century. The development of Ethics reflects the need to overcome clearly and definitely the long crisis in Arab thought. It also tries to give an answer to the deepest questions concerning the Arab Being as a transcendental and moral Being. In this sense, the contributions of the Moroccan philosophers Muhammad ‘Azīz Lahbābī (1923-1993) and Muhammad ‘Ābid al-Ŷābrī (b. 1935) drown from Islamic Personalism and Arab rationalism, are a good example and a turning point on Ethical studies within contemporary Arab thought.Downloads
