War scenario in the north of Sudan (1956-2011): the Nuba Mountains, Red Sea and Blue Nile
Abstract
This article introduces the scenario of armed conflict in the northern Sudanese regions of Red Sea, Blue Nile and the Nuba Mountains by means of secondary data and information. It describes the period between 1956-2011, regarding the Republic of Sudan until the independence of South Sudan, pointing out that violence and armed conflicts have been not only concentrated on the south. Moreover, in the north the effects of repression have been also deep. Therefore, domination of northern political, economic, social and religious elites has aimed to eradicate and undermine other forms of identity different that the leading one. In order to do this, repression and violence have been used and applied as tools, provoking an almost permanent situation of tension and war in the referred northern areas.Downloads
