Approaches on Mujūn in al-Andalus. Chapter VII of al-Maqqarī's Nafḥ al-ṭīb
Abstract
This paper is a contribution to the study of humor and obscenity in al-Andalus' Classical Arabic Lit-erature. Al-Maqqarī's Nafḥ al-ṭīb is a very convenient starting point, especially because its chapter 7 -where he says that al-Andalus's people is very fond of humor and witticism, and very gifted poets at improvisation, and asserts that he will prove this statement- is a good collection of verses and funny stories. I will focus myself only on those verses or stories that al-Maqqarī describes as mujūn. They comprise obscenity and eschatology, and also some statements that can be read as heresy.Downloads
