Other Voices in the Voice: no Definitions of the Poetry in the Work of Marosa di Giorgio
Abstract
In this article we approach the complete poetical works of Marosa di Giorgio (Salto, 1932- Montevideo 2004) through an analysis of the motif of the voice, which is considered from different although related perspectives. These enable us to examine central aspects of one of the most intense poetic experiences of contemporary Uruguayan and Hispanic literature, and to study the treatment of the different voices which appear in di Giorgio's poetry: the double voice that emerges from the poetic speaker's fragmented sense of time, the allusions to and adoption of the voice of others (animals, objects, beings from beyond the grave) referred; the voice as the supplanting or breaking up of the body, which in her last books tends to become an impossible dialogue with death.Downloads
