Fiction and freedom. An approach to the political dimension of the vargas llosa’s poetic on fiction

Abstract

In this article we intend to study the political dimension of Vargas Lllosa’s conception on fiction. For this purpose, we will link this conception of anthropological root, with the ideological foundations of liberalism which make visible the author’s  reflections a set of ideas about the role that they meet the fictions in society and relationships established with individual freedom. This study fundamentally analyzes the text "The power of fiction" published by the author in 1987, and the text "The journey to fiction", the preface to the study made by the author on the work of Juan Carlos Onetti. For this analysis, we use the general framework of the theory of fiction in anthropological perspective developed by Wolfgang Iser, the core ideas on political liberalism postulated by Stuart Mill in his book On liberty and the concepts of “open society” and “closed society” developed by Karl Popper in his book The open society and its enemies
