Abstract

The article approaches the poetics of Robert Bolaño's novels. His idea of literature is compared with those of Spanish novelist Enrique Vila-Matas and Mexican Sergio Pitol, a foundational figure for both younger writers. An analysis of 2666, the Chilean's most complex novel, reveals various characteristics of Bolaño's narrative technique: the intersection of life and literature, the symbolic interest in travel, the complexity of a plot that branches out in subplots, and the non-realist purpose of fiction contaminating the objective appearance of the world.
