Abstract

This article studies the «novísimos», a generation of Cuban narrators born and formed after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959. This generation was educated in the so-called «dark decade», which saw the crisis of the socialist discourse and, hence, of the ideological perspective under which they were brought up. The ideological collapse and the distance between real and official history constitute their experience and is the trigger for some of their characteristics, such as the fragmentation of the individual, the inter and intratextuality, the use of multiple masks or the appearance of new and formally absent themes, among which eroticism and sexuality, in all their varied forms, are of great importance. Thus the novel of the nineties faces the old Utopia, incorporating disenchantment and the lucid analysis of the conflictive social situation.
