The literary initiation of Antonio Cillóniz. Key elements in the formation of a poetics

Abstract

The collections of poems Verso vulgar (1967) and Después de caminar cierto tiempo hacia el este, the firsts by Antonio Cillóniz, are analyzed in order to establish the starting point of a poetics that since the beginning combined formal concerns with other political and social ones. Attention will be drawn to these works in order to achieve an adequate understanding and appreciation of those poems of premature maturity. This early poetics will since then drive the development of a corpus of work of doubtless quality, revisited again and again while enriched by new poems and collections of poems, until forming a life’s work which is both valuable and underrated by the critics, whose shortcomings this article aims to attenuate.
