Segunda Parte del Parnaso Antártico de Divinos Poema by Diego Mexía Fernangil: The “Égloga El Buen Pastor”
Abstract
In 1617, Mexía Fernangil signed the dedication of the Segunda Parte del Parnaso Antártico manuscript to the Viceroy of Peru, in which he brought together various compositions of a religious nature. The "Égloga intitulada El Buen Pastor" is a good example of how its author was fully aware of the evolution of the genre and the need to adapt it to the instructions issued by the Council of Trent. In this sense, he highlights the defense of the literary dignity of biblical themes or those related to the truths of faith and the need to resort to a literary language that would guarantee the favor of the public in order to fulfill its didactic objectives.
