The female a-morality in Jawbone, by Mónica Ojeda: a dialog between literature and psychoanalysis
Abstract
This paper proposes to analyze the female identity of the three main characters in Mónica Ojeda’s Jawbone through the traumas they have suffered and the family and social relationships they establish. In order to further investigate the overstepping of moral boundaries proposed by the book, the analysis will reflect on the author’s purpose of writing and her perception of “childhood”. After that, it will attempt to justify the women’s outrageous behavior, in order to emphasize that children’s sexuality and perversion during their teenage years are part of a healthy and natural development process that nonetheless, due to the very much alive taboos in the 21st century, still frightens adults.
