French translator and an African girlfriend of Rubén Darío
Abstract
Digitized documents available at the archive Rubén Darío of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) show that in 1902/1903, when Darío published some articles in French in the journal La Renaissance latine, the priest Charles Marie Claude figured as his official translator, while at the same time Darío had a romantic relationship with a young woman from French West Africa, M. Bathily, who probably worked for the same journal.
