"La Oculta" (2014) by Abad Faciolince: Narrative situations and orality. Towards a “real realism”
Abstract
The text studies La Oculta by Hector Abad Faciolince (Medellin, 1958). It analyses its narrative situations, residual orality and characters. The first person-narrators and their focalizations let show the complexity of each character, whose narrative oral style reinforces his link with tradition. It concludes that these elements are orchestrated to describe realistically the recent history of Colombia where some Antioquian families share values rooted in their ancestors (honesty, love for their land and work), but also they are open to new attitudes (homosexuality, lesbianism and euthanasia).Downloads
