Abstract

Juan Villoro transforms writing and life of the Mexican poet Ramón López Velarde in the El testigo's plot. El testigo is a metafiction that reflects about Mexican literature and culture. Julio Valdivieso comes to his country and follows the poet's steps. He finishes finding himself. The future seems a travel to the pass. The novel rescue the value of the province as nation's metaphor. Julio, a sort of Juan Preciado, accept the destruction of archives and the impossibility of witness. His fate is the desert among dead and violence.
