"Bobok" and "Pedro Páramo", Two Stories about the Dead
Abstract
This discussion provides a comparative analysis between the novel Pedro Páramo (1955), by the Mexican writer Juan Rulfo, and one of the short stories by the Russian author Dostoevsky, entitled Bobok (1873), which also deals with the subject of the afterlife. At the same time, the hypothesis is put forward that the Russian short story might well have been one of the Mexican novel’s literary sources, while the endeavor is made to pinpoint the connections, whether direct or indirect, between both works. What they have in common is also derived from the literary genre to which they belong, this serving as a starting point for an examination of the features they share, together with the similarities and differences that exist between them.Downloads
