Abstract

The Life and Times of Angelina Muñiz-Huberman (1939) have been strongly influenced by the exile suffered by their parents. By a stroke of chance, the writer born in Hyeres, France and immediately after the family moved to Paris awaiting the end of the war in Spain. After the tragic death of the eldest brother and once Franco in power, they headed for Cuba, where they spend three paradisiac years away from Spain, the war and the rest of the world. Finally in 1942, they moved to Mexico where they settle permanently. The book Las confidentes (1997) contains fifteen stories that are developing some of these turning points in the personality of the ‘Spanish-Mexican’. In some stories, autobiographical elements determine the personality of the characters, while in other stories, the concept of exile is the engine of the narrative’s development.
