Reinterpretations of Discovery and Independence: "Repertorio Americano" during World War II
Abstract
In the interpretations offered by Latin American intellectuals of the era of the European situation in the 30s and 40s of the 20th century, the references to the shared history of the continents stand out. We notably find numerous reflections about Discovery and Independence, a discussion condensed in the contributions on the occasion of the Día de la Raza, the 12th of October. In this article, a selection of the diverse proposals published in the cultural review Repertorio Americano is presented. The aim is to analyse the strategies used by these authors in their arguments to connect the historical past with the present, the conclusions they draw and how these conclusions are presented in the texts.Downloads
