The construction of an identity-based bodieness and resistance in Daisy Rubieras’s novel Reyita sencillamente
Abstract
For Black women, the theme of corporeality is presented as a violated territory, but also as a space of power that serves as a means of fighting back against the physical and emotional aggressions of their environment. At times, this body is rejected due to a sense of dissatisfaction that the narrative self feels about her appearance. Throughout the analysis of the novel Reyita sencillamente, it becomes clear that this negative feeling stems from a long process of female socialization within a sociocultural context marked by slavery, discrimination, and racism
