Neology and Phraseology in the Service of Obliqueness: The Case of Polylexical Creations as Candidates for Phraseologization
Abstract
This article examines the relationship between neology, phraseology, and obliqueness, focusing on a particular type of lexical creations that may evolve toward phraseologization. It relies on both theoretical and empirical analysis to show how these polylexical creations, despite appearing structurally free, acquire a non-compositional global meaning through usage. The study will present the defining properties (syntactic, semantic and pragmatic) of these lexical innovations, as well as the mechanisms of discursive diversion (obliqueness) that generate them. The primary objective is to emphasize the central role of linguistic usage and social dynamics in the lexicalization or abandonment of these creations, as well as their impact on discursive norms and lexical enrichment.
