Transcontinental and Vital Geopoetics in Leclezian Literature
Abstract
The spaces which conform the vital and imaginary universe of J.M.G. Le Clézio (1940) teem with diversity (Nigeria, Mexico, Morocco, Mauritius...). These spaces are linked to his experiences, happy or terrible, occurring by chance or freely chosen, but deeply felt since his early childhood. The intercontinental and even transoceanic geographic coordinates which were part of his existence—through family connections or personal interests—were included in his autobiographical and (auto)fictional literature. Therefore, his work offers numerous detailed and poetic recreations of their topography, their orography, their flora and their fauna, as well as elements inseparable from Leclezian descriptions, such asthe sun, the sea, the wind, the sky, the night. The Leclézian geopoetics experienced, enjoyed, and transmitted through the poetic prose of his stories will also serve us to argue the ecological and humanist commitment of the author.
