“Ô Dieux!”: The translation of intensifiers in Étienne Jodelle’s «Cléopâtre captive»
Abstract
This article presents an analysis of intensification structures in the translation of Étienne Jodelle's humanist tragedy, both in terms of lexical collocations and pragmatic aspects, such as interjections or imperatives. The play is full of nuances of intensity, whose analysis helps us understand how humanist authors form the sixteenth century recovered Classical tragedy through a dramaturgy of the word.
