Abstract

Linguistic insecurity is not exclusive to immigrants, but they are often strongly affected by this feeling because they do not master the host language and because their mother tongue has lost its value as a communication tool in the new society. This paper will analyze the impact of this feeling in the speech of 8 Maghreb women who live in the Paris region. Their answers to our questions will give us an idea of the degree of insecurity that those women consciously feel; then, a more formal discourse analysis will enable us to detect the most hidden manifestations of this feeling.
