The Past Participle Agreement with Pronominal Verbs
Diachronic Analysis of the Spanish Discourse in Pedagogical Grammars of French, from the 1970s to the Present Day
Abstract
French grammar is of a proven complexity: native or foreign, one of the main mistakes made by the learners affects the past participle agreement with the pronominal verbs. This relates generally to the systematic and erroneous past participle agreement, which remains, in certain cases, unchanged. This study is based on a representative corpus of seven French grammars, published in Spain since 1970. The theory is obviously the same one; nevertheless, the way in which the different handbooks approached it, is quite different: our objective is to compare the explanations given, in order to see if they are really relevant to the specific needs of Spanish learners.
