More invisible, precarious and supportive. A rereading of the world of work in the Third Sector of Social Action
Abstract
This article first discusses the personal learning experience of researching and producing a doctoral thesis from the approach and methodological impulse of the ‘Charles Babbage’ Research Group in Social Sciences of Work (UCM).
This is followed by the challenges of the research, which originate from the research group’s collective search for invisible work and focus on the particularly invisible labour market of solidarity. The third section presents data on the evolution of employment over the last 15 years, which demonstrate the validity of hypotheses put forward. During this period, the precariousness of employment conditions in the Third Sector of Social Action has deepened, leading to a culture of precariousness. In this context, making the background of volunteering visible as a means of access to employment that affects precariousness is an outstanding challenge.
