Business management of occupational safety, hygiene and health under franco’s dictatorship
Abstract
Under Franco’s dictatorship, business management of occupational risks, ideally translated into the prevention and safeguarding of both the physical integrity and the health of workers within the company, showed a double face. In line with the various activities that were supposed to make up preventive management geared towards the aforementioned aims, doctors and management often carried out a certain type of practice which, although spurious and pursuing quite different objectives, soon overlapped with the others in a completely natural way and without any stridency whatsoever. By means of these actions, companies tried to secure once again the traditional control, vigilance and discipline they had been exercising over their respective workforces, now with the addition of the desire to achieve higher productivity levels. The aim of this article is to highlight some of these practices, exemplified by a small group of Asturian companies.
