Horizons of Possibility: Rethinking Political Imagination in Times of Global Crisis
Abstract
This paper examines how contemporary crises reveal the incapacity of current social and political structures to imagine meaningful alternatives. It explores the relationship between imagination and the unknown, highlighting the potential to use uncertainty as an opportunity for change. We propose a view of imagination as a creative and relational process, drawing on the ideas of thinkers such as Arendt, Castoriadis and Simondon. Imagination is presented not only as an individual capacity, but also as a political force capable of overcoming apocalyptic narratives that confine us to a future of collapse. The notions of radical imagination, political action and the relationship to the environment are explored suggesting that changing our milieu associéis key to imagining and shaping an alternative future.
