The Transition Debate in Juan Carlos Rodríguez: subject, market and capital
Abstract
This article presents the main arguments of the Spanish literary theorist Juan Carlos Rodríguez in relation to what is known in Marxist circles as the transition debate. In the light of his understanding of the ideological function of literature, it examines his theory of the emergence of the free subject as a historical form of individuality specific to the capitalist mode of production, his conception of class struggle in the transition period, and his critique of the Weberian interpretation of Protestantism as the driving force of capitalism.
