The concept of “baroque” as a tool for (aesthetic) analysis in times of crisis
Abstract
Most of the historical-artistic eras have acquired their name in recent times. The period between the 17th century and the first half of the 18th century ended up being baptized by Heinrich Wölfflin as Baroque, although the concept already existed previously with other meanings and not as a style. From the works of the Swiss writer Renaissance and Baroque (1888) and Fundamental Concepts of the History of Art (1915), the concept began to acquire unsuspected dimensions to the point that our time has been called neo-baroque, due to the analogies with it. In the present work I am going to use the concept of baroque as a kind instrument, above all, aesthetic and stylistic that, at the same time, is linked to epochal and psychic issues in order to analyze certain artistic proposals in different fields, such as painting and music, showing that the projection of the concept encompasses areas of reality of great hermeneutical efficacy.
