Neobaroque and contemporary crisis
Abstract
This article starts from a definition of the baroque, characterized as a category, and as a cultural constant (Hatzfeld, Maravall, Benjamin, D'Ors), in order to establish its connection with the idea of “crisis” (historical, economic, epochal, ideological and imaginary), and thus study the possibility of its repeatability in the historical course. Having established this connection between the baroque as a category and the crisis as a historical, spiritual and cultural event, we will address the philosophical and cultural roots of the contemporary crisis (Schelling, Nietzsche, Jameson, Derrida, Sloterdijk, Agamben, etc.) with the conclusion of establishing if the contemporary crisis can give rise to a rebirth of the baroque, to a neo-baroque.
