Accelerated Bodies: an Analysis of the Effects of Neoliberal Temporality in Subjectivity
Abstract
In this article I will outline the effects that the acceleration of contemporary capitalist societies has in the bodies that are part of them. For that matter, I will study some of the aspects that shape our subjectivities in this context, such as the addiction to technological devices, the dispersion of attention, the suppression of boredom, insomnia, breathing disturbances, the privilege of “fast” emotions, stress, psychophysical pathologies and social atomization. Finally, I will argue that the consequences of the neoliberal acceleration of the pace of life are fundamentally negative, and that we need to transcend the individualistic speech to undertake a political struggle for our time.
