El Leviatán en la doctrina del Estado de Carl Schmitt. Entre la crítica y la tragedia.
Abstract
In this paper I will analyze the main aspects of Carl Schmitt’s reading of the Leviathan, focusing on the idea of death of the Modern State during World War II. First, I will show Schmitt’s hidden critique against nazis as the murderers of the modern conception of the State. Second, I will analyze the historical conditions which give rise to the Modern State according to Schmitt. Then, I will show the theological consequences of Hobbes’ conception of the State. Finally, I will contribute to the Schmittian studies focusing on his final view on the post-Leviathan age. This latter analysis aims to point out an alternative interpretation of Schmitt’s last work, which lately has been more focused on the causes of State’s death than on its consequences.
