Negative Memory and Remembrance Discontinuity. A Reading of Koselleck’s Perspective
Abstract
This article explores the treatment of memory in the work of Reinhart Koselleck, scarcely studied by the specialized bibliography. The theme will be approached from three axes little visited in his work: the tension between individual and negative memory, the discontinuity of memory, corresponding to a primary experience and his iconological work on monuments from the 19th century onwards. After these points, some ambiguities that inhabit its analysis will be exposed. These reflect a gap between the individual and social register in which experiences take place, Koselleck's inability to glimpse a collective memory beyond the State and the problem of the instramisibility of memories.
