The Soul at Work and the Soul-Work
Notes for a Critical Inquiry of a Dictatorial Continuity in La Aventura de los Bustos de Eva by Carlos Gamerro
Abstract
This article aims, focusing on Argentina, to problematize the cultural inheritance of the last dictatorship and how it demarcates democratic politics. Analyzing the novel La aventura de los bustos de Eva by Carlos Gamerro, we will see how the neoliberal transformations on the work culture, define the confronted hegemonic blocks of the political present as the novel depict its similarities on the equal work process of subjectification that takes over the soul and desire of the worker, which is translated into a political antagonism with more in common than differences. We will arrive to the conclusion on the necessity to question work as a reproductive praxis in order to recover the soul of the worker and to create another politics beyond the pendular political antagonism inherited from the last dictatorship.
