Abstract

We maintain the thesis that the concept of hegemony developed by Gramsci is deficient in two key points: in terms of explaining the modes of integration characteristic of complex societies, and in its projection regarding the construction of future society. The two aspects are related in that both refer to the conception of an ethical totality (Hegel), vertebrated by a worldview. The concept of hegemony, according to this, should overcome in a radical way its deep ethicist dimension, its substantial ethos. For the exposition of this thesis, we make a confrontation of the Gramscian position with the observations of the great classical sociology (Durkheim, Weber) and particularly with the approaches of Habermas and Rawls.
