War is a cabaret. Reflections of the German interwar period from literature to musical cinema
Abstract
this paper aims to show how Bob Fosse’s Cabaret reflects the atmosphere in Germany during the advance of Nazism, from Cristopher Isherwood’s book Good bye to Berlin. For this purpose, it analyzes the diegetic function of musical numbers conceived as microcosms re-creating in abyme the society who watches them. Furthermore, we will see how this realistic treatment of the musical cinema contributes to the renovation of the genre itself.Downloads
