Bildkarikaturen zum Kampf ums Heinedenkmal

  • Dietmar Goltschnigg

Abstract

The struggle for a Heine monument in Germany which erupted in 1887 is evidenced by cartoons published in satirical newspapers. These cartoons with ridiculous elements of hyperbole, exaggeration and distortion are often connected with the grotesque, the surprising and paradox clash of contrasts, the satire, the negation of negative facts and circumstances and the parody as a possibility for the critical adaptation of prototypes and patterns. The criticism of the presented examples arouses less against Heine than against his problematic reception by venomously enemies as well as simple minded adorers and trivial epigone imitators.
