El alemán como lengua franca de la Unión Europea
Abstract
Compared with English and French, German plays a minor role as an institutional lingua franca of the European Union. However, since the late eighties, the status of this language has gradually been reinforced. This has prompted German political leaders to demand an institutional treatment for their own national language similar to that received by English and French. This paper provides a diachronic analysis of the position of German in Europe and the EU vis-á-vis its two main competitors (French and English) from a sociolinguistic point of view.Downloads
