Franz Grillparzer: ¿el Calderón de la literatura austriaca?
Abstract
The Spanish drama of the Golden Age provided the framework and the point of reference for the renewal of German language drama during the 19th century. Whereas the authors of German Idealism -Goethe included- focused their attention on the work of Calderón de la Barca, Franz Grillparzer is clearly inclined towards Lope de Vega. In opposition to idealist totality, Grillparzer prefers a greater psychological realism and in Lope de Vega he is able to find plausibility in detail and psychological authenticity in the subject. His insightful analysis of Lope de Vega's work allows Grillparzer to formulate a theatrical theory which is -despite its excesses- still valid in Austrian literature.Downloads
