Abstract
Taking into account all the inherent difficulties in literary historiography, the diachronic study of literature should avoid substantialist or immanentist positions and instead should situate the literary context within a communicative one. With the theory of systems, as developed by Niklas Luhman, as its theoretical background, the aim of this study will be to try to define the function and object of literature and to provide an answer to the controversial issue of literary change.Downloads
