The Semantic and Functional Modifications of Prefixed Verbal Neo¬logisms with Prefix 'ent-' in German
Abstract
This paper focuses on the semantic and functional modifications of German verb neologisms prefixed with ent-, which are the most productive prefixes and have the most complex morpho-semantic configuration. Specifically, even though the same semantic changes occur in prefixed lexicalized verbs and prefixed neologisms it is argued that on neologisms, the private and the modal reversative modifications dominate in neologisms, causing relations as well between the prefixed verbal base and the semantic charge. The results confirm the need for a morphological study of these formations for a better lexicographical description.
