Abstract

Gottfried Benn went so far as to say that Nietzsche was the greatest German language writer after Luther. Both Thomas Mann and Ernst Jünger stressed the importance of his contribution to literature. For Spanish scholars, Nietzsche is perceived almost exclusively as a philosopher. This article sets out to consider Zarathustra from a literary perspective. Nietzsche’s text is understood here as a work of fiction with the inherent peculiarities of the genre and structured as a novelistic work, whilst using language that can be regarded as essentially literary.
