Imaginaries of eco(u)topia
Solar fix, solarity and solarpunk
Abstract
During the last decade, the solarpunk movement has emerged as a political, artistic, and literary trend that advocates for a sustainable and just future. However, some representations commonly associated with this sociopolitical expression fail to meet the movement's expectations, promoting future imaginaries that do not emphasize community participation in the construction of that specific imaginary. This article aims to analyze three examples of "solarpunk" aesthetics in order to reveal the conceptual issues found in various perceptions of eco-optimism, emphasizing the need for a representation of the militant aspirations that underlie solarpunk.
