Fort(gehn). De-distancing, departure and trauma of understanding, (starting) from Werner Hamacher y Sigmund Freud
Abstract
The article analyzes the problem of understanding by examining the concepts of dedistancing, departure, and trauma. Traditionally, understanding has been approached through a classical notion of representation associated with presence and availability. However, in this study, we explore an alternative understanding that incorporates insights from the ideas of Werner Hamacher and Sigmund Freud, which involve a reformulation of the prevailing notion of representation. Through a careful and close reading of a poem by Rilke, including its translation, we can examine these contributions and develop the concepts of subtraction, departure, and dis-alienation in the context of Freud’s well-known game of Fort/Da. This exploration aims to outline the implications of such an exercise for a detracted understanding of understanding, drawing on the perspectives of the aforementioned authors.
