Edúcame Primero: international volunteering and service-learning in an international cooperation program
Abstract
The Edúcame Primero programme is an evidence-based practice for the prevention and eradication of child labour in educational contexts that has been carried out with positive results in Colombia, Peru and Honduras. In this article we describe how the programme has served to create a space for university collaboration for development cooperation in the field of child labour prevention. In addition, we analyse the effects of the programme on the training and acquisition of technical and intercultural skills by the professionals and students involved in its implementation and how this has affected the relations between the participating entities. The results of its implementation show that the impact of the programme has gone beyond local contexts, promoting the emergence of learning communities around the prevention of child labour and enabling its sustainability in different social and cultural contexts.
