Verbal and Visual Parallelism in Two Prophetic Fragments of "Códice Pérez" and "Chilam Balam de Kaua"
Abstract
This article applies Alfonso Lacadena García-Gallo’s typology of parallelism proposed in «Naturaleza, tipología y usos del paralelismo en la literatura maya jeroglífica» (2010) to two sections of Códice Pérez and Chilam Balam de Kaua. Using examples, the article supports Lacadena García-Gallo’s typology and the continuity of Maya literal tradition. In addition, this article proposes the analysis of a visual parallelism in the same sections and analyzes the function of verbal and visual parallelism as mnemonic and didactic resources.
