Environmental conservation in Bas-Saint-Laurent, Quebec: local initiatives to preserve and inhabit the territory differently
Abstract
The region of Bas-Saint-Laurent in Quebec is a place where different and alternative landscape protection and nature conservation initiatives are emerging. This article explores these cases of environmental conservation, situating them within the broader frame of environmental conservation and protected areas in Quebec, focusing more particularly on the actors who drive them, the way in which this sector is structured, sometimes on the fringes of the State sometimes with its support, and the type of activities favored. This allows us to understand how these initiatives seek to inhabit the territory in another way, how they highlight nature differently and why they appeared.
