Abstract

Working time diversification has turned individuals´ working life into a difficult ground in which multiple and different temporalities that are interwined demand to be combine coherently. Several social studies on time have often omitted the role of expectations within the production of individual strategies through which flexible workers pretend to combine the temporal diversity that shape their working experience. This overlooking seems to be rooted in considering the same both the problem of temporal articulation and the problem of coordination of time schedules and timetables and, hence, considering that time is only referred to the length and the measurement of time. At the contrary, this article maintain that diversification of working times also includes diversification of working expectations. Hence, strategies includes not only time tables, time schedules and careers but also working expectations both own and other ones. Consequently, time included within strategies is not only referred to the length and measurement of time but also to the future horizon upon which hopes, fears and previsions are cast that allow individuals to guide their present action and elections.
