Abstract

The text faces the situation of the population affected by immigration and foreign affairs in Madrid Region. It is here where we find the highest number of foreigners registered in municipalities and of foreigners with a Residence permit out of all Spain. The relevance of immigration's position in Madrid Region related to all Spain is put forward, attending to country of origin and demographic characteristics of the flows of immigration (age groups, gender). The second part offers an updated in 2007 panoramic about spatial distribution and the irregularity rate of different national groups, and the comparison related to natives, in terms of regular employment and healthcare access. The last part focuses in the emergence of a type of immigration diversity management named “Madrid model”, compared with the existing models in other surrounding countries. It also stresses the importance of taking into account the origin and destination contexts, in order to locate the possibilities and types of citizens’ implication of immigrant population in each time period and in each specific location.
