Abstract

In this article we investigate the relation between social changes and imaginary field in the contemporary society. Political communication of our age has two main characteristic tendencies. The first is the passage from bourgeois liberalism towards mass-democracy and society. The second one is the constant and continuous urbanization of global population. In this context, in accord with Georg Simmel, we remark the basic change of the relation between social ensamble and social imaginary. In traditional societies, but also in every monolithical one, individuals create social bonds with reference to the one and only imaginary world that establishes this society. On the contrary, in the age of the “polytheism of values”, individuals participate in more than one imaginary fields that create and regulate life in concrete social circles.
