Abstract

From Baudrillard to Bauman and Castells, a bunch of well known enquires have shown how fragmentary, fluid, mobile or flexible social reality has become. This paper is a sort of academic development of those enquires. Aimed to present an outline of a theoretical model of social reality as a fluid reality, it starts, nevertheless, by trying to overcome difficulties, conflicts and rejections that the most simple formulation of it rise between the two hegemonic theoretical models in social theory. Social fluidity is sketched with both the unfolding of four main features (unstable multiplicity, mutual relationality, postsocial sociality, and laminar porosity) and a redefinition of the notions of «form», «stabilization», and «order». Finally some ways of application (to chart social fluidity) are discussed, as well as some political implications of the new theoretical model. This outline is rather schematic, rough, and incomplete. That is its weakness, but also its strength.
