Abstract

Indigenous social movements appeared to stay in Latin-American political scene in the last two decades of twentieth century. The sociological analysis of the mobilizations which took place in Ecuador, Mexico, Bolivia and some other countries have usually emphasised the role of political opportunities structures in their emergence and consolidation. Nevertheless, we consider that such an analysis leaves unexplained the process of identity construction from tribal identities to an indigenous identity. We intend to define a research proposal including identity construction and the dynamics of relation between political configuration of power and some other actors, as religious congregations, trade unions, and international organizations.
